Aki’s classes often start slowly, establishing the chosen theme, preparing the body and mind for more dynamic sequences toward the end, integrating what’s been learned earlier. Basics are never overlooked, even with experienced students. Everyone is encouraged to work on the level of refinement suitable to their capacity as it can show how subtle changes support bigger external movements. Advanced poses follow naturally when practitioners are ready.

"I work somatically – which means we work with ‘the body as it is experienced from within’, rather than the body as it is looked at from the outside. In this way, the body and mind are not separated but are experienced as a whole.”

“My classes are based on working with movement principles rather than achieving forms. This offers more freedom in the way we can practice. However it requires
honesty, courage and an enquiring mind to discover the truth of ourselves which is yoga’s purpose. I choose to make suggestions and raise enquiries instead of telling students what to do in order to cultivate their ability to sense and honour their own experiences. This requires the students to be actively involved.”

Having studied many styles of yoga, Aki utilises the differences that each style offers and appreciates where they meet. She runs workshops on Restorative Yoga, Embodied Anatomy and is an experienced Pranayama practitioner. She is trained in Structural Yoga Therapy and certified Somatic Movement Therapist and Educator. Dedicated to Advaita (non-dual) teaching as well as Buddhist philosophy over many years, she enjoys sharing meditation practices and dharma teachings with her students. This to her is the most important aspect of the practice. Aki’s classes are fun and light, and yet profound.
